VOTE GREEN, VOTE:

Your GREEN PARTY candidate for Otley and Yeadon

David Webb - is an active campaigner on community, environmental and peace issues, working to end the illegal activities at the US spy base at Menwith Hill and to keep space for peace and for all human kind. He believes that Green politics is not only concerned with the issues of the environment but with every issue that affects people. The concerns are no narrower that those of other parties, the principles are stronger.

Nationally, The Green Party is Working for

Putting people and the environment first. This means:

·            Investing in renewable energy and not nuclear power.

·            Investing in real peace and security. No replacement for Trident. Abolish nuclear weapons.

·            Non-aggressive foreign policies. No more wars like Iraq in our name.

·            Promoting understanding and trust between different communities in Britain.

·             Supporting youth organisations such as the Woodcraft Folk, which can bring young people from different backgrounds together.

Vote for a Green Councillor in Otley and Yeadon

Locally, The Green Party Stands for

Community

·            We believe that education should be run by elected representatives, answerable to citizens, and not by self selected groups and businesses.

·            We support increasing the power of Town Councils, to invigorate democracy and re-engage people with their elected representatives.

·            We support initiatives to enable local people to determine that the development of their built environment and green space serves the interests of a sustainable community and not the short term goals of individual profit making.

People

·            We want to see pedestrians put first and cycling made safer. Developing wider, safer pavements and stopping vehicles from parking on pedestrian footways should be a priority.

·            We welcome the new initiatives such as Development Trusts as a way of supporting small businesses, particularly social enterprises, in the area. We support bids to use surplus Council properties for community renewal in Otley and Yeadon.

·            Energy efficient, warm, affordable housing for everyone.

Environment

·            Leeds and Bradford should not be seeking to sell off the airport, to make the cities a fast buck. This will lead to inevitable expansion. Whether we like it or not, cheap flights = environmental disaster!

·            Leeds needs an integrated transport policy – fast. Now that supertram has gone, we need efficient buses and trains, and road-pricing.

·            We would like to see car pooling schemes encouraged. Let us learn to be minimal car users, not car owners.
